We are all born with the ability to astral project. Practice is the only reason some astral project and some do not.

Just like yoga and meditation, astral projection has a very long history. People have called astral projection by many different names over the centuries and there are also many different techniques which can help you to astral project.

One of these methods is lucid dreaming. This is something you probably already know something about. This, of course is when you are able to control your dreams because you are conscious and in full control of your faculties in the dream. You can begin lucid dreaming by telling yourself ‘I am dreaming’ while you are in a dream.

As you repeat this phrase, you can wake up in your dream and have the freedom to do anything you like. This may be difficult for beginners and may take time to practice before it works.

You need to know that astral projection is real. You should also know that you have astral projected already, you simply were not aware that is what had happened.

For example, if you have ever awakened from a dream remembering each and every detail, you were actually astral projecting! This has happened to everyone at some time or another, even if you haven’t heard of astral projecting.

The ability to astral project starts with believing that you can do this. Everyone can astral project it’s just a matter of freeing your mind of the doubts which are keeping you from astral projecting.

Relaxation techniques such as meditation can help you prepare to astral project. Meditation is one of the best ways to prepare for astral projection the key is to find a regular meditation routine which can get you the relaxation you need.

Do your meditation in a quiet, comfortable room where you will not be distracted as you meditate. Clear all thoughts from your mind.

Focus on your breathing, which should be slow and deep. As you exhale, visualize all of your worries leaving your mind along with your breath. You’ll soon be in a state of deep relaxation ideal for astral projection.

Now is the point where you need to reach an altered state of consciousness. You need to focus not only on your breathing but the way you are breathing.

Focus on breathing in through the nose and letting the airflow out through your mouth. You are breathing slower and deeper and getting more relaxed, now focus on relaxing your body.

Focus on each part of the body, starting at the farthest points, your toes. You can do one of two things here. You can either tense and relax each part of your body as you move up the body or you can say as you exhale, ‘My toes are relaxing, I am relaxing.’

With each exhalation, you should feel the tension leaving your body. Once your body is completely and totally relaxed you will be ready to move onto the next stage necessary for you to successfully astral project.

Once you are fully relaxed, you may be ready to fall asleep don’t doze off, you’re almost there! Repeat a phrase to yourself to stay focused. It doesn’t matter what this mantra is. Even ‘around the corner’ can work just choose a phrase which you can focus on and repeat it.

Your mind may want to drift off and cause thoughts to start flowing through it. You do not want this to happen. You need to keep your focus on a phrase to keep these thoughts out. You will have to end the session and start over if you lose your focus.

You have to achieve an altered state of consciousness in order to astral project. You can reach this state by continuing to repeat your phrase to yourself. Another method preferred by many to astral project is the ‘body of light’ method, where you visualize your body transforming into one made of light.

Three feelings you can expect to experience that will let you know that you have achieved astral projection are initially feeling as through your floating or moving. You will then see lights and colors even though your eyes are closed, this is believed to be your body moving into the astral world.

Finally is beginning to hear voices telling you either to stop your meditation or to continue on and astral project. These signs will let you know for sure that you are astral projecting.
