Every person in the world man, woman and child is born with the ability to astral project. This is a very real ability and practice is the only difference between those who rarely astral project or do so with difficulty and those who can astral project at will.

Believed to be an ancient practice, followers say this practice should be treated with respect. Astral projection is a lot like meditating or yoga and comes in many different forms.

Lucid dreaming is the first level of astral projection. This form of dreaming is when you consciously dream and one type is astral projection. Many say this is a simple form of projection and that while you are dreaming, you begin by telling yourself ‘I am dreaming’

If you keep doing this, you will become conditioned to being aware when you are dreaming. It may be hard for a beginner to astral project with this random practice.

By practicing relaxation techniques including meditation, you can prepare yourself to astral project.

Meditation is perhaps the most effective technique to prepare yourself to astral project. The important thing is finding a meditation technique which allows you to become completely relaxed.

One simple way to meditate is sitting in a comfortable spot in a quiet room free of distractions. Get comfortable and clear your mind of all thoughts.

Achieving an altered state of consciousness is the next level of astral projection. Consistantly breathing deeply and slowly to keep your mind clear and stay relaxed is the goal at this state.

The breaths that you are taking should be deep, coming in through the nose and going out of the mouth. As your breathing is slowing and deepening you need to focus on your relaxing on your body.

Work your way up towards your head, beginning from the toes and relaxing every part of your body one by one as you go. There are two techniques which work very well here. The first is to visualize each part of your body relaxing as you move upwards, telling yourself as you go that each part is relaxing.

You will begin to feel heavy, as if all your energy and stress is going away as you relax each part of your body. You will notice when this happens. Once this occurs in your entire body, you are ready to move on to the next step in astral projection.

By now, you’ll be so relaxed that you might be ready to doze off. However, you must not do this. Stay focused by repeating a phrase to yourself. You can repeat anything you want as your mantra. You could even use ‘Dubuque, Iowa’. All that matters is that it works for you.

When our minds have nothing else to do, they tend to wander and this can spoil the concentration you need to astral project.

In order to astral project, you’ll need to reach an altered mental state. This can be done by simply repeating your phrase. You can also use the ‘body of light’ technique, which many practitioners find to be helpful. In this technique, you need to visualize your body transforming into a body of light.

As you start to astral project, there are three signs which you can watch for to know that you are doing so successfully. The first is a sensation of motion, even though your physical body is perfectly still. The second is ‘seeing’ color and light, even though your eyes will be closed.

Last, you’ll hear voices. These voices will either be urging you to continue or to stop this is a sure fire sign that you are on your way to astral projecting.
