The ability to astral project is an innate ability that each and every person is born with. The difference between those that astral project on a regular basis and those that do not know they are doing it is simply practice.

Astral projection is something which has an extremely long history, just like yoga and meditation. There are many different names that astral projection goes by and a lot of different ways to astral project.

Lucid dreaming, for example. You already know what lucid dreaming is this is when you are conscious within a dream and able to direct the course of the dream. This takes practice to do reliably, but it is as simple as saying to yourself ‘I am dreaming’ while you are in the middle of a dream.

Lucid dreaming lets you take control of what happens in your dreams; but it can take a while to be able to do this on a regular basis. This means that it is not an ideal way to astral project, at least for those who are new to the practice.

Even if you are unaware of having done so, you have astral projected before.

Have you ever awoken from a particularly vivid dream remembering every detail? You were not dreaming this you were astral projecting.

Being able to astral project begins with self-affirmation. You need to believe that you have this ability.

You’ll have to eliminate all of the doubt that’s been preventing you from astral projecting.

Methods that help you to relax like meditating helps to promote projection. Meditation prepares the mind and body for astral projection and all it takes is practice and time through meditating properly.

Do your meditation in a quiet, comfortable room where you will not be distracted as you meditate. Clear all thoughts from your mind.

Focus on your breathing, which should be slow and deep. As you exhale, visualize all of your worries leaving your mind along with your breath. You’ll soon be in a state of deep relaxation ideal for astral projection.

Achieving an altered state of consciousness is the next level of astral projection. Consistantly breathing deeply and slowly to keep your mind clear and stay relaxed is the goal at this state.

The breaths you take should come from deep down inside. As your breathing slows down, focus more and more on relaxing your body.

Focus on separate areas of the body, beginning with your toes. Tense each part of the body and relax as you work your way up from your toes to your head. As you exhale, tell yourself, ‘my arms are relaxing and I am relaxing.’

You will begin to feel heavy, as if all your energy and stress is going away as you relax each part of your body. You will notice when this happens. Once this occurs in your entire body, you are ready to move on to the next step in astral projection.

By now your mind and body are ready for sleep, you need to stay alert. To do this many practitioners recommend that you come up with a line that you can repeat to yourself such as ‘I fly, I fly, I fly,’ you decide what you are going to say as there isn’t a right or wrong thing.

When the human mind is unoccupied, it will tend to wander; this will ruin the concentration you need to astral project. Just keep repeating your phrase to yourself and taking slow, deep breaths.

To reach the state of altered consciousness you can use the phrase you chose or another way. The body of light method involves picturing an area of light that you will change into. Picture the light in your mind and imagine yourself going into it and becoming a part of it.

Three feelings you can expect to experience that will let you know that you have achieved astral projection are initially feeling as through your floating or moving. You will then see lights and colors even though your eyes are closed, this is believed to be your body moving into the astral world.

You will then hear voices telling you to stop or to continue this is a sure sign that you are astral projecting.
