Astral Projection Methods for the Absolute Beginner

Astral projection methods vary, but all methods start with relaxation. You need that quiet mind so that you can get focused and relaxed. This quiet state will help you to get ready for going beyond your physical self and into the mindset you need to be in to begin exploring the universe around you.

A relaxed state that is also focused is not something easy to get into. Relaxing every muscle while keeping the mind alert and focused in a must for astral projection. Many people fail at astral projection because the end up asleep due to the fact that they cannot get into a deep relaxed state without also relaxing their mind.

Begin the focused relaxation phase by first dressing in comfortable clothing, then sitting in a chair where it is unlikely one will be disturbed. Lying down is not recommended for beginners, as it is too easy to lose one's grasp on his or her concentration and give in to the pulls of sleep.

Once seated comfortably, imagine that tension is a fabric bandage that has been wrapped over every inch of the body -- much like a mummy - that tightly constricts even the smallest of toes. Next, imagine those small toes being unwrapped. Warm blood flow returns, as does the feeling of cool air to the skin's surface. Imagine the same process for each individual toe until all ten toes have been "freed."

Move up your body unwrapping the balls of the feet to the arches to the ankles and on up. You will keep moving up the body and unwrapping until you are completely free.

Once this phase is completed, an individual is ready to execute one of the various methods of astral projection explained below.

A main astral projection method is referred to as the rope method. Before you start the relaxation phase you will tack a rope to the ceiling above you. It should be easy to touch with your eyes closed. This helps you with visualization.

Hanging the rope will let you easily find it with your astral fingers. You will float to the rope and use it as a guide once you are relaxed. In the beginning it can be a little tricky to find the rope, but after a while you will have no trouble doing so. Just remember to be focused.

After finding the rope, concentrate on pulling the astral self up and out of the physical body as if climbing up the length of rope. Imagine the process without regard for weight, as the astral body is weightless and can climb effortlessly. A sense of dizziness may occur at this point, but it's important to ignore this feeling, otherwise one may jeopardize the projection attempt.

Climb on up the rope until your astral body is free. You should not focus on any of the feelings you may have. You may feel dizzy or tingling or warm. All these things are just a art of the process and completely normal when it comes to astral projection.

You may also hear of slight variations of the rope method. Some of these include the lift method of lifting the astral body out and hovering above the physical body. There is the roll out method of rolling out of the body to end up beside the body, mostly done when lying down. The fixed and moving anchor methods are two other methods.

In the former, one visualizes a stationary object toward which one then tries to pull oneself, while with the latter, one visualizes feeling the magnetic pull of the object, and thus exits the physical body. Once separated in this way, an individual's astral body is free to explore all of time and space.

Astral projection methods take time to master. You will need to practice and learn the process. It is important to keep a positive attitude as you work. Your first attempts may not be successful, but you should keep trying. Unsuccessful attempts can be due to many different things like distractions, not being relaxed enough or not being in control of your mind or body.

The more dedicated the individual, however, the sooner he or she will be able to troubleshoot these issues, master the methods of astral projection, and ultimately, transcend the limitations of the physical body.
