The ability to astral project is something which every person already possesses; we are in fact born being able to do this. So why are there those who can astral project at will and those who have much less success with the technique? The answer is simple practice.

Astral projecting is an ancient practice that should be treated with the respect that it deserves, much like meditation or yoga. There are a variety of types and names that it is known by. There are also different ways to astral project.

The first type of astral projecting that should be talked about is lucid dreaming. We all know what lucid dreaming is, it is when you are consciously dreaming. One form of this conscious dreaming is astral projecting. You can do this rather simply. What you need to do is when you are dreaming is realize that you are dreaming and say to yourself in the dream ‘I am dreaming.’

Saying this key phrase ‘I am dreaming’ over and over again, allows you to wake up in your dream and do anything you desire. This may take time to learn and can be difficult, so don’t be discouraged.

You need to believe that astral projection does work and is a reality. You have already experienced it but you do not realize it.

Think of those times when you awoke from a dream able to remember every detail down to the smallest things. In these cases, what you were doing was astral projecting, not dreaming! We’ve all had this experience before and this is one of the ways that we astral project.

The key element to astral projection is to know that you can do it. This will help erase any fears or doubts that you may have that could be keeping you from being able to astral project.

Using relaxation techniques can help you to prepare your body and mind to astral project. Meditation is the best way to get started. You need to find a meditation technique which works for you in getting you into the relaxed state needed for astral projecting.

Find a quite place to relax, a comfortable chair or lie down, making sure you will not be interrupted. Clear your mind of all thoughts, picture a blank screen.

Clear your mind of all the stress and worries which can keep you from relaxing. Take deep, slow breaths and as you exhale, visualize all of this stress leaving your body and mind. Stay focused on your breathing and soon you’ll feel yourself relaxing, reaching the state of relaxation you’ll need to be in to astral project.

The next step is to go into an altered conscious state. Keep focusing on your breathing, your problems are gone, your mind is blank.

Breath in through the nose and out of the mouth which helps to slow and deepen breathing.

Focus on separate areas of the body, beginning with your toes. Tense each part of the body and relax as you work your way up from your toes to your head. As you exhale, tell yourself, ‘my arms are relaxing and I am relaxing.’

With each exhalation, you should feel the tension leaving your body. Once your body is completely and totally relaxed you will be ready to move onto the next stage necessary for you to successfully astral project.

Once you are fully relaxed, you may be ready to fall asleep don’t doze off, you’re almost there! Repeat a phrase to yourself to stay focused.

It doesn’t matter what this mantra is. Even ‘around the corner’ can work just choose a phrase which you can focus on and repeat it.

This works because the mind will wander when given nothing else to do and your focus and relaxation will be ruined. If you lose focus, you’ll have to start all over again. Keep repeating your phrase to stay on track as you prepare to astral project.

To reach the state of altered consciousness you can use the phrase you chose or another way. The body of light method involves picturing an area of light that you will change into. Picture the light in your mind and imagine yourself going into it and becoming a part of it.

Three feelings you can expect to experience that will let you know that you have achieved astral projection are initially feeling as through your floating or moving. You will then see lights and colors even though your eyes are closed, this is believed to be your body moving into the astral world.

You will probably hear voices. These voices will warn you to stop or tell you to go ahead. You will know you have been successful in astral projection when you get to this stage.
