Many different astral projection techniques are available for people to use and help them astral project. Every person is unique and what works for one person will not necessarily work for another. * Initially just relax. It is most important for you to relax your mind and body. Many techniques are available to be used for relaxation. Breathing exercises are just one way. Deep breathing, a simple one, just deep breathing, slow and calmly. Inhale deeply and exhale deeply, relaxing all your muscles, one at a time. Tensing them and relaxing them, start with the toes and work your way up your whole body. Slowly and steadily.
* The next step involves the hynagogic stage, where your mind and body are very close to the state of sleep. Remember not to forget yourself and don't doze off. Start by gazing at something and focus on it as you lay in bed. As you let your eyes drift shut, you will discover that you can still see the thing that you are focusing on.
* Once you are inside the hynagogic stage, remember that you need to deepen it. With your eyes still closed, look around and see what you can see. Some of the things that you might see include strange light patterns, or everything being cloaked in a purple light. Go ahead and ignore the light, and once you have managed to get rid of it, you will know that you are in a deeper state. Remember that at this stage, you should be so relaxed that you are no longer aware of your physical body, and this detachment is extremely important when you are thinking about this technique and what it can do for you.
* This next step is the most vital according to Monroe. With the fourth step you will induce the state of vibration. Those who have been practicing the seven steps of astral projection techniques, have stated they feel the vibrations early in the projection. They believe that vibrations are the feelings you experience as the astral body starts to leave the physical body. Just feel the vibrations and do not be alarmed.
* Next you need to be in control of these vibrations. To be in control you will have to focus on this vibrations and cause them to course through your body. Utilize your mind to do this, you need your whole body to experience the vibrations, as if they were waves covering you. You need to practice this enough that you can do this at will. Now that you can do this stage you will be able to leave the body next.
* Use your mind- A key component to astral travel and projection is control and your mind is the one in control. Monroe recommends that to help in the strengthening of this control, you can practice a "partial separation." Keeping focused, with your mind, on leaving the physical body. Starting first with a foot or a hand of the astral body and stretching it towards a familiar object. Maybe a floor, ceiling or wall. Now, which ever extremity you choose, push it through that object. Then pull back and return back to the physical body. Slow down the vibrations, end the session and stay unmoving where you are laying until you have returned to a fully awakened state.
* Finally, the step where you will leave the body. Follow all the steps from one through six. This time, you are not releasing just a foot or hand from the physical body. You are going to completely move into your astral body. A simple adjustment is needed, an adjustment to step six. You are not going to focus on one small part of your body, but you are going to focus on the entire astral body. Start by thinking how light your body feels, how weightless it is, like a tiny feather gliding in a soft breeze. At this point the astral body should be moving, out of the physical body. You have the sensation of floating or even flying.
Some other techniques that you might want to investigate include the Gazing Method, the Rope Technique and the Anchor Technique. Take a look at each of these and see how they judge for you. However, be aware, not everyone is able to astral project using the above techniques. These techniques take time and patience to learn and require a lot of practice by you.
