The ability to astral project is something which every person already possesses; we are in fact born being able to do this. So why are there those who can astral project at will and those who have much less success with the technique? The answer is simple ? practice. The practice of astral projection has a very long history, just like meditation and yoga. There are many different names by which astral projection is known and many ways that you can astral project.

Lucid dreaming is one type of astral projecting. Lucid dreaming is of course when we are conscious of our dreaming ? this is actually astral projecting. In order to lucid dream, all you need to do is to tell yourself 'I am dreaming' while in the dream.

However, it can take some time to become skilled in the technique of lucid dreaming, making this perhaps not the best way for beginners to astral projecting to use in their efforts to astral project.

You have astral projected before, perhaps many times. You may not have been aware that this is what you were doing, but one example is the dreams which you may wake up from remembering each and every detail. These were actually experiences of astral projection.

All you need to do to get started is to know that you have the ability to astral project. Each and every one of us can do this; the next step is to begin clearing all of the doubts from your mind which can keep you from being able to astral project.

Practicing meditation and other relaxation methods can get your mind and body prepared to astral project. Meditation is the best relaxation technique for those looking to astral project. The key is to find a regular meditation regimen that helps you to relax.

Choose a room where you will not be distracted, have a comfortable place to sit and where you will be able to have peace and quiet. Free your mind of worrying thoughts ? you need to clear your mind of all thoughts in order to be able to astral project.

Your focus should remain on your breathing. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. As you become more relaxed, your breathing will become deeper and slower.

Start with your toes and relax your body bit y bit, working your way up to your head. You can do this by either tensing and then releasing each part of your body as you go along. Alternately, visualize all of the stress and tension leaving from each part of your body as you do your deep breathing.

You?ll begin to feel a bit heavy and limp as you release all of the tension and negative energy from your body. After your entire body is relaxed, it?s time to move on to the next step in your efforts to astral project.

At this point, you?ll be so completely relaxed that you may be tempted to fall asleep. To prevent this and stay focused on your goal of astral projection, repeat a phrase to yourself. It really doesn?t matter what this mantra is; even 'ham on rye' can work. Just choose one and repeat it to yourself.

When our minds have nothing else to do, they tend to wander ? and this can spoil the concentration you need to astral project. Keep repeating your phrase to stay focused.

There are a few different ways you can reach the kind of altered state required for astral projection. You can keep repeating your phrase until you reach it, or use the 'body of light' method, where you visualize yourself transforming into a body made of light.

There are three signs which will let you know that you are successfully astral projecting. One is that you?ll experience a sensation of motion, followed by seeing light and color even though your eyes will be closed. Finally, you?ll hear voices urging you either to continue or to stop what you are doing ? this is a surefire sign that you have managed to astral project.
